I’m Iliona Wolfowicz, PhD in Biology, Portuguese born and raised by a Portuguese mother and a Belgian dad. My native language is Portuguese but living and working abroad for more than 10 years is how I developed full proficiency in both the English and French languages. I do have a basic understanding of German too. Together with my husband, we moved to Portugal and settled in Braga in 2018, while I was a few weeks pregnant with our now 5 years old son. After +10 years of living abroad, Portugal also felt like a new country to me. It became clear that a support network of like-minded people is essential: being it friends, health professionals (e.g., pediatrician, pelvic floor physiotherapist, breastfeeding expert, etc) and family members who know your ideals, respect your choices and assist to care for mother and baby with grace. I have a scientific background, and I am applying evidence-based information, language and communication skills with empathy to create a family-centered approach. My mission is to support women and families from natural family planning to motherhood and parenting as foreigner or multicultural/expat in Portugal. Nature shows us in various ways that protection and care anticipate successful metamorphosis: this is my mission, to provide information and a safe space for women and their families. In a multicultural environment it becomes more important to know the variety of options available to increase the chances that each family finds the type of care they desire. Motherhood and parenthood is intense and a transformational turning point for a family - rather to seek and get the support you need.
